Portrait of R A Hewitt

From the first home computers to speculative worlds.

Fascinated by computers from an early age, Hewitt was born early enough to witness the arrival of the first home machines. He began programming on a ZX Spectrum before later moving on to the Amiga.

He started his career as a graphic designer, drawn to the structure beneath visual art. As the early internet evolved, he taught himself web design, combining a love of aesthetics with a deep interest in technology.

That curiosity eventually led him further into mathematics and software engineering. Over more than twenty-five years, he built a career as a programmer and systems architect. Today he works as a CTO, leading a talented team of engineers.

The Optimiser Trilogy brings those strands together again: art, computing, systems thinking, and a lifelong love of science fiction. It marks his move into fiction that asks what happens when intelligence becomes powerful enough to solve the world, but not wise enough to understand what makes it worth saving.
